Ken Waterworth
Ken takes on the role of Territorial Creative Arts Director following thirty years in music education. Ken is excited about the opportunity to use this experience in his new role and is thrilled about seeing people, young and old, using and developing their creative gifts in ministry and mission.
Ken was the Director of Music at Eltham High School for over twenty-five years establishing the school as a leader in music education. He is acknowledged as one of Australia's leading music educators, highly praised for his conducting, training and development of bands throughout the country. He has been a speaker at music conferences, guest conductor, adjudicator and soloist throughout the country.
In 1995, Ken was presented with an Australia Day Award for his service to the community and arts and was further acknowledged by his selection as a finalist in the 1997 Victorian "Teacher of the Year" Awards. In 2003, Ken was awarded the Prime Minister's Centenary Medal for outstanding leadership and development in Music Education.
Ken was appointed bandmaster of the Territory’s premier music ensemble, the Melbourne Staff Band in June 1994, having previously been a member of the band for fourteen years, which included a three year term as deputy conductor. As an accomplished euphonium soloist, Ken was featured on the band's international tours and major concerts.
Ken, along with his wife Lynne and their four children, Ashlea, Kara, Chevaune and Brandon worship at the Box Hill corps.
